Submission Guidelines

While we do not accept posted submissions, we are very happy to receive your submissions via email. Please be sure to read through the relevant submission guidelines before submitting.

Please send all submissions to: submissions@kurumurubooks.com

Due to the large volume of submissions we receive, we are, unfortunately, unable to provide feedback on every submission. We will, however, let you know our decision via email within three months.

Authors

All samples should be sent as a Word document with your name and email address in the header of each page.

Please send us a cover letter introducing yourself (this can be in the body of the email), a brief synopsis of your book in English, Spanish, German, or Japanese, the first two chapters (or thirty pages to a natural break) of your book in its original language, and an English sample translation of your book (if you have one).

Illustrated picture-book stories or illustration samples should be sent with jpeg or PDF images of the book pages and with a separate Word document for the text.

Please note that we are only able to correspond in English, Spanish, German, and Japanese. We do, however, accept and encourage submissions of works in any language.

Translators

All translation samples should be sent as a Word document or PDF with your name and email address in the header of each page.

Please send us a cover letter introducing yourself (this can be in the body of the email), a copy of your CV, and a 1500 word sample translation with its corresponding source text.

If you would like to submit a specific book for consideration, please send us a brief synopsis of the book, a brief biography of the author and their cultural context, a PDF or Word document of the original text, and a note on why you think this book should be translated for English readers.

Please also let us know if you are interested in translating that book yourself. We would very much like to give that work to translators who have brought the book to our attention, but know that some translators may not have time for another project.

Illustrators

All illustration samples should be sent as jpeg files or PDFs or via a digital portfolio.

Please send us a cover letter introducing yourself (this can be in the body of the email), a copy of your CV, and eight to ten colour samples or a link to your digital portfolio.
